Ultimo news is good news…?

 As the old adage goes, ‘ all news is good news…’

or perhaps we should ask  Michelle Mone , the Glaswegian Ultimo lingerie boss if that is indeed correct, for it seems not a week can go by without her being mentioned in the papers and more for her private life than for anything to do with her £1m lingerie business. In an article this week in the Scottish Daily Record, Mone says she feared becoming an alcoholic after admitting to downing whiskey and bottles of wine nightly during her £24million divorce from  ex-husband of 20 years and former partner in the business, Michael Mone. She said: “It is easy to do. You open a good bottle and have one glass and before you know it, it has gone.”

And last week saw what could be Abby Clancy’s final Ultimo range launch. Clancy, the model and girlfriend of footballer Peter Crouch, has apparently had ‘creative differences’ with the Ultimo boss and mum-of-three  after modelling for other clients. According to headlines back in July, Mone has apparently been subsequently looking for a ‘new face’ for the lingerie brand.

Yet another headline for Mone this week revealed she has recently hired Graham Walker – the celebrity ‘loophole’ lawyer to defend her for allegedly driving 20kmh over the 50kph speed limit on the M77 in Glasgow and also allegedly using her mobile phone whilst driving over Kingston Bridge in Glasgow last August. Walker successfully defended cricketer Shane Warne against a charge of using his phone whilst speeding at 103mph in back in 2012.

And back in February, Mone was accused and found guilty of bugging an employee’s office by placing a listening device in a pot plant. She and MJM International chiefs feared operations director Scott Kilday had plans to leave the business and were subsequently forced by the courts to pay damages of nearly £16,000.

And after MJM International reported retained losses last November of more than £231,000 in a three-month period, let’s hope that Mone has indeed got it right and all this media attention is indeed good news for the business.
