La Perla has always been the first choice of underwear for lingerie models like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Carla Delevingne Naomi Campbell. But now, La Perla designers have decided to try their hand at outerwear too.
Last week La Perla confidently strode into the world of high fashion couture, unveiling its elegant new AW15 designs for clothing and swimwear on the catwalk at a Milan Fashion Week presentation on Friday, to coincide with recent success which has culminated in the opening of its global flagship doors on our UK shores with a store in the high-end shopping location, Old Bond Street, sharing a postcode with the likes of big boys and girls, MaxMara, Gucci and Armani.
The slinky collection didn’t fail to impress and included luxe lacy bodysuits with sheer cutaways as seen on the red carpet at the Oscars last week, silky on trend jumpsuits and outerwear, non-sports wear leotards. Corsets as outerwear, as well as silk pyjama type trousers, sent the fashion world into at spin with its daring bold attempt to bring lingerie finally from out its hiding place.
La Perla was first established by corset maker, Ada Masotti in her home in Bologna in 1954. The last La Perla collection, Atelier, was walked down the Paris Couture Fashion Week catwalks by the likes of famous lingerie models like Naomi Campbell, last year, starting off a run of success the brand hasn’t seen in a while.
Speaking to Vogue last year, a La Perla spokesperson said of their success: ‘For La Perla it was all about fully leveraging the craftsmanship and the fine knowledge of modelling on the female body, which is an integral part of any garment we make. Choosing fabrics and techniques that represent sophisticated sensuality; thinking about the main concepts that are at the heart of the La Perla style philosophy.’
